Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

If you want to save money on auto insurance and you live in California, you should obtain auto insurance quotes online. If you compare rates online until you find the best deal, you can save hundreds of dollars each year. You will decrease your monthly auto insurance payments and you can apply the extra money to your debt and other expenses if you wish. Keep in mind that most people do not obtain auto insurance quotes online when they are shopping around, and they end up paying too much for auto insurance.

When you obtain a California auto insurance quote online, you will be provided with the best rates from several auto insurance companies in your area. It will only take you 5 minutes to obtain California auto insurance quotes online. The application is simple and you will receive instant quotes from the top insurance companies like Progressive, Allstate, State Farm, Prudential, Geico, GMAC, The General, Farmers, Nationwide, Liberty Mutual, Mercury, Safeco, Infinity, 21st Century and many others. If you like the rates you are provided with, you can purchase an auto insurance policy online. You can obtain a quote for free and you are not obligated to make a purchase. Keep in mind that you will be provided with rates and details for each auto insurance policy. If you have questions when you obtain a quote for auto insurance online, contact a representative on the website. They are experienced and they can help you choose an insurance policy.

It is important to note that auto insurance providers are competing with other insurance companies for your business. Since it costs them less money to sell auto insurance online, they can afford to charge less money for auto insurance policies. You should take advantage of their discounts by obtaining free auto insurance quotes online. Keep in mind that many insurance brokers work on commission, so they normally charge higher rates for auto insurance policies. If you obtain auto insurance quotes online, you will not have to worry about being scammed. You will receive accurate quotes from reputable insurance companies and you will receive the lowest rates that are available to you.

Auto insurance prices vary among insurance companies. If you want to save money on auto insurance, I strongly recommend that you compare prices with at least five insurance companies. In addition, you should find a reputable, financially stable insurance provider. Whether you purchase an auto insurance policy online, from a local agent, or over the phone, make sure you inform yourself completely before you make a purchase. If you follow these tips, you will reduce the cost of your auto insurance premiums and monthly payments.

California Considers Mileage Based Auto Insurance

Friday, July 31st, 2009

In an effort to both develop a fairer auto insurance pricing structure for consumers and encourage people to drive less, lawmakers in California are considering legislation that would make mileage based car insurance a reality in that state. If the bill passes, it could dramatically change the way auto insurance companies do business and the way consumers drive.

Mileage based auto insurance is insurance that you pay for based on the number of miles you drive. If your car rarely leaves the driveway, your auto insurance rates would be low, while if you drive long distances frequently, your insurance would be more expensive. Insurance companies could approach this in a few different ways. You could purchase a policy based on your predicted number of miles driven, or you could “settle up” for miles you actually have driven at regular intervals. You would be required to have regular mileage check-ups, either at an insurance company office, a garage certified by the insurance company or via a GPS system installed in your car.

Proponents of the plan think that the benefits are twofold. First, it levels the playing field a little bit in terms of auto insurance rates. People who rarely drive will no longer have to pay the same monthly premium as people who drive long distances daily. Second, mileage based auto insurance could encourage people to drive less, which is good for the environment. If people knew their insurance was going up with every mile they drove, they might think twice about some of the trips they make and think more about using public transportation.

Mileage based insurance opponents are concerned about the way insurance companies plan to track mileage. Installing a GPS tracker in a car invades the privacy of the driver. Even if the stated purpose is solely to track the mileage, once the GPS is in the car, the ability to use it for other purposes is there. There is also concern that mileage based insurance puts an undue burden on those who have no choice but to travel long distances every day, such as those with long work commutes.

The bill proposed in California would not make mileage based insurance mandatory. It would simply open the door for auto insurance companies to offer it as an option to their customers. Oregon and Georgia are considering similar ideas, and many other states are expected to follow suit. The mileage based insurance alternative has had some success in the UK, but it has yet to be tried in the US. However the legislation pans out, consumers will remain in the driver’s seat when it comes to choosing the right California auto insurance policy for them.

Driving Without Auto Insurance

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

If you drive a car in California, you must have auto insurance with no exceptions! California auto insurance is designed to protect all parties involved if you have an accident. It provides for car repairs and medical expenses. Without California auto insurance you could not only be held financially responsible for the medical and repair bills of the drivers you hit, but you may also receive tickets, fines and even have your license suspended for not having a California auto insurance policy.

Living in California is expensive and auto insurance is yet another bill to pay. But if you don’t have it, you’ll end up paying much more in the long run. If you are pulled over for any violation, or even just in a random traffic stop, you can be asked for proof of insurance. Without it, you will probably face a hefty ticket, costing more than auto insurance would have cost you in the first place! Of course, this is the least severe penalty you might entail for failing to get California auto insurance. You can be fined up to $500, have you car impounded, receive a suspension of your driver’s license and face additional fees associated with impounding the vehicle.

If you actually get into an accident without having auto insurance your penalties will be much more severe. While no jail time can be currently assigned for failing to have auto insurance, you can be held responsible for literally thousands of dollars which can drive you into life-changing debt.

Despite these harsh penalties, people still drive without auto insurance, putting themselves and others at risk. In fact, around 14 out of every 100 drivers in the U.S. were driving illegally, without auto insurance, in 2001. This number was the same in years prior. Many states, however, have rates of uninsured drivers that are much higher than the national rate. Those who drive without California auto insurance added up to a shocking 26% in 2001. But what is most shocking about this number is that the uninsured drivers cause the largest number of accidents. In fact, chances are about 1 in 8 that the person that causes your serious car accident is uninsured.

In order to protect yourself and others, getting at least the minimum state required auto insurance is crucial. In fact, you might even find that getting an auto insurance policy is cheaper than you think. It’s certainly cheaper than paying the fees and fines associated with driving uninsured. And because getting an auto insurance quote is free, it’s easier and cheaper than ever to drive legally and insured.
